Kalos is a fitness technology company redefining how people understand and improve their healthspan. We combine clinical-grade DEXA technology, elite-level coaching, and an AI-powered software stack to help thousands live healthier, happier lives.

Founded in 2024, Kalos has locations in San Francisco, Palo Alto, and San Jose, and is rapidly expanding both across the Bay Area and into new markets.

The Role

We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to help ship refined solutions that will improve the health of thousands. As our second engineering hire, you’ll work directly with our Head of Engineering and founders to build and ship products in a high-impact role at an early-stage company. You’ll have real ownership from day one and a direct line to the people using what you build.

At Kalos, You’ll Work On

  • Consumer products that reach thousands. You'll build the apps and web experiences our members use to book scans, track their progress, and understand their health.
  • Pushing the boundaries of body composition science. You'll work on software that integrates directly with the DEXA machine while collaborating with researchers from Stanford, UCSD, and more to advance the field of body composition measurement.
  • Internal tools to make elite coaches even better. You'll build AI-powered tools trained on thousands of real coaching conversations to give our coaching team superpowers and let them deliver better guidance at scale.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong full-stack engineering skills with experience in TypeScript, React, and Node.js
  • Proficiency with AI coding tools and agents (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.)
  • Experience building and deploying web applications end-to-end
  • Comfort working with Python for scripting, data pipelines, and backend services
  • Familiarity with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and cloud platforms
  • Ability to pick up new codebases and systems quickly with limited hand-holding
  • Strong communication skills and high EQ. You’ll be working closely with a small team and need to collaborate well
  • Self-directed and resourceful. You figure things out rather than waiting to be told what to do

Nice to Have

  • Mobile development experience
  • Familiarity with machine learning beyond just plugging into LLM APIs
  • Background in health tech, fitness, and/or working with medical data (e.g. DICOM)

Compensation & Benefits
